Russian Cold War Platoon (The Zone) finished.

As I did actually finish these last week I though it about time to share them. All the previous comments about nice sculpts but poorly cast with lots of moulding lines still hold true and NO there is no Platoon Sniper and still too many LMGs, but enough phaffing around they are done and I can start the US/British/west German/ Canadian troops.

You can see in the first picture the platoon leader on the left then the platoon medic (Armband) and finally another (Spare) RPG heavy weapon specialist. All in all it was cheaper to buy them this way than to buy separate packs so no regrets.

The last Picture is them all together, the force composition is a BMP Mechanised Platoon due to the number of LMGs  BUT I can make it a BTR platoon with little difficulty. Just a single pack of QRF miniatures will solve the issue and allow me to get a man portable anti aircraft missile at the same time.

The next thing is to get the US forces done and then start playing. What a shame I am getting sidetracked at the moment, following the Broadside show.

Thanks for looking, all the best and see yu soon.

Cheers Clint

  1. Good to see this project completed Clint, and despite their casting issues your paintjobs have done the Soviets proud imho. Nice group shot at the end too. Looking forward to seeing the Yanks, and your thoughts on the game as you start playing.

    1. Thank you Blax. I intend to use the force on force rules, I have tried using them before but they were not what I wanted for Afghanistan, They are better for Platoon actions and I wanted squad actions. I have some 15mm US Vietnam figures and I will be using them once re-based and re-painted and the M113 as well as the main Transport for them as I want the game to be set late 70's early 80's.

    1. Thanks Fran. While there is not too much to do for this project It looks a lot if I start to list it.

  5. Great looking figures Clint! Love the grassy basing too, do they get a +1 or +2 for hiding behind it?

    1. Thanks Ray With reference to the cover bonus, it will all depend on where the game is fought! They will get nothing if hiding in the desert or beach or car park!

    1. Thank you Michael. I believe the force composition to be slightly wrong for a single platoon, however there are enough basic soldiers to field 3 squads adequate for game purposes.

  7. Very nice, though anything post-WWII is not really my cup of tea

    1. Thank you C6. I know what you mean we all have areas of interest that have less appeal to us. For me it is ECW or Napoleonic's!

  8. A very good looking unit Clint, well up to your usual high standards despite the inherent figure problems. So just a few more figures for the Ruskies for "variation" - it never ends.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Yanks.

    1. Thanks Joe. The Yanks will be a re-paint and re-base of some old figures. So do not expect TOO much from them.

As for the Russians I do only need a few extras most notably a sniper, an AT- team and maybe an SA7 team and they I can field every platoon combination.
The vehicles may be a different matter.
